REMINISCING: DESIGN PROJECT – BOLD & DRAMATIC

DESIGN PROJECT: CORGI DRIVE RESIDENCE

DESIGN PROJECT LOCATION: SIMPSONVILLE, SC

INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO: KCL-IDESIGN, LLC

PRINCIPAL DESIGNER: KIMBERLY C. LYONS

PROJECT GOAL: Select a color that would ultimately change the client's existing dining room's look and feel and enhance the space's objects.

PROJECT OUTCOME: The bold interior walls add character and create an open and inviting atmosphere. The client is highly pleased with her newly designed dining room.

I love to reminisce about my past design projects, and they can sometimes become a unique inspirational asset for future projects. I shared this post at the beginning of February 2019. However, when I do a repost, it is always to inspire, motivate, and give a much-needed inspirational nudge. Significantly, if anyone did not get a chance to revamp specific rooms in 2019 or later, it is officially 2020. Therefore, it is time to become inspired again, and this is where I step in and offer my guidance because it is always possible to update, regardless of what room it is.

Besides, there is nothing like applying the most fantastic decorative coating globally. With that said, for all the incredible people who know me, it will only take about half a second to scream the answer to what I am referring to: PAINT. When applying color, I prefer to create a drastic representation of before and after. Therefore, if a new color choice resembles the already existing finish, this will display a slight difference.

It became evident during the consultation that intense and bold colors did not intimidate the client. One of the main reasons I accepted this project is because enhancing the home with newly painted interior walls would significantly impact the space. Also, being beyond obsessed with such a unique decorative coating makes my job much more FUN and EXCITING! I go insane when I spend time at my favorite paint stores. Shuffling through newly stocked swatches, talking to vendors about the latest trends, and eagerly contemplating what colors I will combine are crazy fun!

Typically, when I work with color, I will give the client at least three palettes to choose from, and again, this can depend on the client and the overall design project. I have learned that too many selections can become confusing, and not having enough to explore within the desired preference can become problematic. The client was confident using intense colors and delighted with the final selection. Please, do not get it twisted; color is not for everyone, but OMG – it sure is beyond transcending!

INSPIRATIONAL NUDGE: If you have never desired to use dramatic or dominant paint, try it because it will change the entire atmosphere and vibe within a space – PROMISE!
