DESIGN PROJECT: INCORPORATING A PAINTED ACCENT WALL
/DESIGN PROJECT: INCORPORATING A PAINTED ACCENT WALL
DESIGN PROJECT: CREEK SHOALS RESIDENCE
DESIGN PROJECT LOCATION: SIMPSONVILLE, SC
INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO: KCL-IDESIGN, LLC
PRINCIPAL DESIGNER: KIMBERLY C. LYONS
PROJECT GOAL: The client felt intimidated by color but wanted to add an accent wall. We both decided on a more toned-down color that would be warm and inviting, contrast with the existing wall color, and become a focal point within the room.
PROJECT OUTCOME: The client was pleased with how the color transformed her sitting room. So, I acquired two other design projects within her home, both of which involved a decorative coating.
Well, hello there; I know it has been some time since I posted. There is no excuse except that I have implemented several newfound creative adventures within my interior design studio. Therefore, I have been absent, but I am incredibly excited to be available to post some inspiring inspiration.
However, this time of the year is a fantastic time to refresh those boring rooms. If you are tired of looking at bland walls, create a focal point with paint. Painted accent walls are stylish and statement-making, and they not only add style, depth, character, and appeal to a room but can set the tone for the entire space.
Moreover, there are two crucial factors that I like to ensure a client understands when dealing with extraordinarily bold, vibrant, subtle, or any color.
1) Applied color – the overall effect within the room and other elements such as decorative objects, furniture, patterns, textures, finishes, and natural and artificial light.
2) The psychological effect on each occupant.
Besides, there is nothing like an accent wall to pull a room together. This design project uses the most massive wall parallel to the windows as a backdrop, impacting the entire space. The fireplace is a focal point facing two perfectly styled windows with high drapery, creating balance and symmetry. Adding unique decorative objects, artwork, and an area rug helps pull the space together.
When I style a room, I must remember the older design projects, such as this one, because the goal is always about inspiring and motivating someone to get started on those much-needed projects. I decided to repost this project because I enjoyed collaborating with this client. She was beyond amazing to work with and overjoyed to see how her newly styled sitting room looked after I worked my magic. Okay, I was wildly excited, too!
Remember, once the backdrop is in place, the fun part is finding the perfect pieces that will bring the room together cohesively.
