INTERIOR INSPIRATION: STYLED CONSOLE TABLE
/Question: Did you know? A furniture designer designed the console table, which was developed in the late 17th century and became extremely popular throughout the 18th century. The purpose was for them to be fixed to a wall and supported only by front legs.
Question: Who else loves perfectly styled console tables?
However, while getting my Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, it was evident that I became even more fascinated with furniture design. I am fascinated by the entire design process, functionality, and authenticity. Still, it is intriguing to understand how specific pieces originated while continuing to change throughout the years from the start of their original era. It is incredible to see that even though elements and styles change, the meaning behind the original object is still there. So, even as a designer and having acquired accurate knowledge, I still get incredibly excited when dealing with furniture.
Moreover, two classes inspired me during college: History of Architecture Interiors & Furniture I and History of Architecture Interiors & Furniture II.
Both courses received my undivided attention. The smallest detail inspired me, and I expanded my knowledge and dug deeper into where specific pieces originated from and the individual behind the creation. Even though I had ample materials during class, I researched and found another gem. The book is the Third Edition Dictionary of Furniture by Charles Boyce (foreword by Joseph T. Butler).
This book is extraordinarily unique and has expanded my knowledge more, especially when dealing with distinct types of furniture. I now see how certain pieces stand out more than others within a room. With that said, console tables are a must-have. I have several beauties throughout my home, displaying decorative objects from my favorite travels, such as South Africa, Italy, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Jamaica. A console table can add character and interest, appeal to any space, and enhance the décor displayed.
Design Tips:
Use books to add height variations.
Place décor pieces on top of books (layered effect).
Combine various colors to create a contrast.
Adding texture is a must; remember to add some stylish table lamps. There is nothing more exciting than showing off a well-dressed console table.
