KCL-IDESIGN, LLC DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: CREATIVE SOUL
/KCL-IDESIGN, LLC Design Philosophy: I have a solid foundation for my design philosophy as a designer. However, I cherish this one the most: "Having a deep understanding that an individual with a creative soul can reinvent the not-so-beautiful objects or spaces." —Kimberly C. Lyons.
My creative skills in reinventing are unlimited, especially when it comes to old furniture, and once my creative juices start to flow, the possibilities are endless. However, I never take my gift for granted from the original and first designer himself – God. I understand that he designed everything, and yes, I mean everything! I thank him daily for giving me an unsurpassable gift that I continually use to transform spaces and reinvent whatever comes in my path that needs a little love and tender care. Moreover, even though my job is primarily to design beautiful rooms, the not-so-beautiful objects are reinvented to show that regardless of time, they can bring drastic change and acknowledge that the outward appearance can become renewed again.
"Run-down, old, and unsightly furnishings or decorative objects that were once new, yes, the forgotten pieces, I am always inspired and honored to reinvent." – Kimberly C. Lyons.
When I came across this accent chair, which I knew at one point was once sitting stylish and taking center stage somewhere, my determination to do a complete face-lift was in full effect. At first sight, it needed a fresh look, and the transformation came through a pale decorative coating and dominant fabric that would give a completely distinctive style and vibe.
1. Wood (dismantled and cleaned thoroughly)
2. Re-tightened chair frame
3. Recovered worn-out seat
4. Transformation complete
Design Tip: Get creative when choosing the perfect paint color or finish. The reinvented accent chair was a project during my Habitat for Humanity Restore internship.
Woo-hoo! I achieved what I set out to accomplish: giving a worn-down accent chair a new life. Impressive! My goal was to change the chair's characteristics and create a subtle contrast that still has a wow factor.
